Bringing the Gospel to Yaounde, Cameroon

So here it goes! Christiaan has asked his computer illiterate mother to take over his blog. I am sure in two years I might learn something, but I want to apologize before hand for when I mess up a bit (or more).
We were up late last night finishing his packing, and then up by 3:30 this morning to make sure we got to the airport on time. We started to panic slightly when we got into a very long line to get his luggage checked in, but our first blessing was right around the corner. As he was trying to get his boarding pass, a very helpful worker came over to instruct him in getting his pass and then let him in on a secret that we should go outside to the curb to check in our luggage. I was a little hesitant to get out of line because it was growing quickly, about 75 people in front of us and a good 40 more behind us. Nevertheless, we took her advice and walked outside. Only one other person was there, and for $4 we got his luggage checked in within 5 minutes. We headed upstairs to find another enormous line to get through the security gate. He had about 20 minutes or less before the plane would start boarding passengers. We waited in line with him and discovered the line was moving at a pretty good pace. In fact, it moved along so well that we found very little time to all get in our last good byes. I am usually not that emotional, but I have to admit I broke down when I was giving him my last hug, I didn't want to let him go! He did well, though, and kept it together. We watched him go as far as we could and then quickly headed to the roof of the parking garage. We sat a few minutes before his plane was hooked up and being backed out onto the tarmac. The seven of us ran to the edge of the garage and waved to our hearts content, hoping he would see us through his window. The plane wrapped around the garage with us chasing after it, waving to him all along. We took a video of his plane taking off as we continued to wave good-bye...and guess what? He saw us!!!! I hear that's when Christiaan broke down, but that's OK, its a healthy break down. He is now safely at the MTC, thanks to his Aunt DeAnn, who picked him up and entertained him for a few hours. We now only wait for that P-day when he can finally share with us his own thoughts of this very draining, but joyous day!
